Funeral services for Howard V. Mullins, 78, of Burke will be held Monday, February 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother C.G. ""Buster"" Grigg and Brother Gary Fannon officiating. Private family graveside services will follow.
Mr. Mullins was born July 29, 1932 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Polly (Breazeale) Mullins and T.H. Mullins, and died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Mullins had resided in Diboll and Burke most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was employed with Temple-Inland, Inc. for 34 years. Mr. Mullins served on the Temple-Inland Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for nine years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Diboll, where he served as music director for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Mullins of Burke; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bob Pennington of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Gregg and Mary Mullins of Lufkin and Ted and Patty Mullins of Jeffersonton, Virginia; grandchildren, Josh and Calynn Mullins of Central, Marcie Pennington of Beebe, Arkansas, Payton and Amanda Pennington of Murray, Kentucky, Tyson and Jessica McMullen of Sugar Land, Andrea and John Felso of Willow Springs, North Carolina, and Mike and Amanda McGhee of Millis, Massachusetts; eight great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Alta and Walter Sharry of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Nora Mullins of Diboll; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Coy and Sherra Taylor of Diboll; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Frank Mullins.
Pallbearers will be Duane Baxter, Jesse Bradford, Theron ""T-Bird"" Grigg, Russell ""Woody"" Ingram, James Leavell and Tom Williams, Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Breazeale, Wayne Clark, Johnnie Joe Huizar, Amos Lewis, Donald Ray Nash, Carl Pavlic and Bill Weatherford.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of A Pineywoods Home Health Care, the staff of Hospice in the Pines, and caregiver and friend, Gearline Davidson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
