Funeral services for Barbara ""GG"" Drake Yarbrough, 76, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tony Holder and Tony Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mrs. Yarbrough was born January 7, 1935 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Addie Lee (Kervin) and Jewel Dow Drake. She went peacefully home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 6, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Yarbrough was a devout Christian and a member of New Life Church on the Rock.
Barbara married the love of her life, Ray Yarbrough, September 11, 1950. Ray went to serve his country during the Korean Conflict and Barbara stayed home working full time and raising their son. Together they operated several small businesses until Barbara finished her education and started her career at the Lufkin State School where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement in 1994. Barbara enjoyed many things in her life. She was married for 41 years, loved reading scripture and listening to old hymns. She was fiercely loyal and dedicated to her family and friends and was always willing to help whenever she could. Barbara enjoyed hot coffee with anyone who would drop by, lend an ear to anyone who needed it, dabbled in innocent gossip from time to time, and spending time with her daughter Cheryl who never left her side. Her greatest asset was her love that she shared with all that knew her. Her greatest legacy will be the many she touched and the children she so loved and adored.
She leaves her most precious gifts, sons and daughters-in-law, Bobbie and Judy Yarbrough of Orange and David and Christi Yarbrough of Hudson; daughters and son-in-law, Jerri and Ray Basham of Galveston and Cheryl Woody Yarbrough of Lufkin; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She leaves a void never to be filled except for the promise that we shall see her again in Heaven.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Yarbrough; brothers, Darrell, C.W. and Sammy Drake; and sister, Clara Drake.
Pallbearers will be Tony Yarbrough, David Yarbrough, Calvin Sharp, Johnathan Fagg, Glen A. McVay and Ray Basham.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
