Bruce Thornton

Funeral services for Bruce Thornton, 69, of Huntington will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin. Interment will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery.

Mr. Thornton was born January 31, 1941 in Splendora, Texas to the late Verna (Ward) and J.J. Thornton, and died Thursday, August 26, 2010 in Tyler. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne 52nd U.S.A.S.A.O.C. and was a retired logger.

Mr. Thornton was very musically talented. He could play the guitar with no lessons and the piano by ear.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Thornton of Huntington; daughter, Ellie Thornton of Huntington; sons, Johnny Thornton, James Thornton and Jerry Thornton, all of Splendora; four grandchildren; brother, K.L. Thornton of Splendora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his son, Jack Thornton; and brother, J.P. Thornton.

Pallbearers will be members of the Homer Masonic Lodge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Landers and Carl Freeman.

The family extends very special thanks to the Sam's Club family for their help and support during this difficult time.

Memorial contributions may be made to a fund that has been established for the Thornton family at Huntington State Bank.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
