Graveside services with military honors for SSgt. Corbett Gilbert (Ret.), 86, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Houston National Cemetery with Reverend Dean Lawrence officiating.
Mr. Gilbert was born March 15, 1924 in the Manning Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Hettie (Read) and Lige Gilbert, and died Saturday, April 17, 2010 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Houston, Texas, Mr. Gilbert had resided in Lufkin for nine years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired after 21 years as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He then retired from the maintenance department of Houston ISD after 15 years of service. Mr. Gilbert was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, James and Sue Gilbert of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law, Doris and Robert Stites of Clear Lake and Bobbie Burroughs of Crawford, Georgia; sister-in-law, Helen Gilbert of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Gilbert; brothers, G.B. Gilbert and Robbie Gilbert; and sisters, Tressie Gilbert, Louise Kluch and Alpha Lowe.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
