Elmer Ellis Mecham

Funeral services for Elmer Ellis Mecham, 89, of Groveton will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 606 Bending Oak in Lufkin, with Bishop Ted Adams and High Priest Marvin Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Trevat Cemetery in Trinity County.

Mr. Mecham was born July 13, 1921 in Ioka, Utah to the late Sarah (Shirts) and Franklin Moroni Mecham. He passed away Friday, July 30, 2010 in a Houston hospital.

Mr. Mecham was a retired truck driver for Delbert Greer Trucking, following 10 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Mecham loved mechanical and carpenter work, building bird houses, and watching westerns. He especially enjoyed visits with his grandchildren. Mr. Mecham was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Formerly a resident of LaPorte, he had resided in Groveton for the past 28 years.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Leon Ellis Mecham of Hamilton, Donna Christine and Michael Brown of Groveton, and Matt and Kathy Mecham of Groveton; grandchildren, Michael Mecham, Benjamin Mecham and wife Danielle (Darcella), Scott Case and wife Jamie, Sheldon Chapman and wife Tanya, Adam Mecham and Jacob Mecham; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Johnson of Colorado and Rhea Tanner of Portland, Oregon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Irene Mecham; daughter, Ilene Abutbul; grandson, Brian Case; and brothers and sisters, Claine Mecham, Erma Farnsworth, Fay Mecham, Ila Foote, Arvella Judge and Dewain Mecham.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Mecham, Michael Mecham, Benjamin Mecham, Mike Brown, Rusty Rohrbach, Marvin Wright and Brandon Prewitt.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
