Funeral services for Fay Magee Palmore, 98, of Lufkin will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Alex Montilla officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.
Fay was born November 7, 1911 in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of Vattie (Smith) and John A. Magee, and died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 in a local nursing home.
Fay graduated from Hudson High School in 1931. With the financial help of her brothers, Chester and Hubert Magee, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and obtained her teaching certificate. In September 1932 she began her teaching career at Hudson.
Fay and her family moved to San Antonio in 1953. She renewed her teaching certificate at San Antonio College and Trinity University and began substitute teaching in the San Antonio area. In 1957 Fay realized her lifelong dream and started her own Kindergarten which she operated until her retirement in 1973. Thus began her next career - collecting just about anything and everything. She had a great time.
In 1996 Fay returned to Lufkin/Hudson. She lived on her own, gardening and selling her collectibles until December 2002 when she finally had to admit it was time for some assistance.
Fay is survived by her son, James Palmore of Lufkin; daughter, Ann Palmore of Lufkin; daughter, Mary Palmore Kleinhout and son-in-law Bill, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Vancouver, BC, Canada; first cousin, Vivian Warner; and very dear nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Old Union Cemetery Association, 3010 Southwood Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, Hudson High School Alumni Association, 6735 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or donate a book to any library anywhere.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
