Jerry L. Butler

Funeral services for Jerry L. ""Pop"" Butler, 73, of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Reverend Willie Spikes, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery. Masonic rites will be under the auspices of Wells Masonic Lodge #915, A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Butler was born July 6, 1937, in Atlanta, Texas, to the late Hassie (Maine) and Hobert Butler. He died Monday, August 16, 2010 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Butler was a retired truck driver for Red Ball Motor Freight and Con-Way Southwest. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Butler was also a member of Wells Masonic Lodge #915, A.F. & A.M., and had lived in Lufkin most of his life.
Pop loved his family, wood working, practical jokes and sports, especially the Houston Astros. He never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jo Butler of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Eddie Savoie of Lufkin; sons and daughter-in-law, Lance and Traci Butler, Ricki Dale Butler, all of Lufkin; seven grandchildren, Patrick Butler, Bunk Butler, Colton Carroway, Belinda Michele Butler, and Kodee, Jodee and Brodee Butler; two great granddaughters; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his sister, Betty, and brothers, Steve, Richard and Montie.
Pallbearers will be Gary Whitley, Buddy Ainsworth, Eldon Fuller, William Fuller, Joey Jones and Vernon Page.
Memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
