Graveside services with military honors for Charles Robert ""Bob"" Blankenship, 83, of Huntington will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington Cemetery with Pastor Calvin Kersh officiating.
Mr. Blankenship was born October 12, 1926 in West Hamlin, West Virginia to the late Martha (Dean) and Dee Blankenship, and died Friday, April 2, 2010 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Huntington, West Virginia, Mr. Blankenship had resided in Huntington, Texas for nine years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the American Car Foundry where he was a welder. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Johnson Missionary Baptist Church in Zavalla.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Donna Blankenship of Huntington, Texas and Ronnie E. and Natasha Blankenship of Huntington, West Virginia; daughter, Jean Blankenship Castro of Beach Fork, West Virginia; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Blankenship.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
