Dalton Herman Seale

December 18, 1929 — July 9, 2010

Funeral services for Dalton Herman Seale, 80, of Lufkin will be held Monday, July 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Dalton was born December 18, 1929 in Keltys, Texas. He passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at Memorial Hospital Hospice Center of Lufkin after having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's in December of 2006. He was the son of the late Ollie (Craig) and Herman Seale.

As a young man Dalton delivered blocks of ice, during the days before electric refrigerators were in every home. He also worked alongside his dad at the saw mill at Keltys before serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean era. Upon returning from the military, Dalton began a career as a millwright at Southland Paper Mill in 1956. His work in the maintenance department came in handy, as he learned how to repair almost any kind of machinery. In September 1991 he retired after 35 years of service.

Dalton loved and lived for his family. After first meeting at the old skating rink on North Raguet (Bougs), he and Betty were married August 5, 1949. That union lasted almost 61 years. Summer vacations to Colorado became a family tradition when his boys were young. And he was always at every baseball, football, or track event that Ken was involved in as well as being Randy's ""crew chief"" during his motocross racing years. He enjoyed building his grandchildren trolleys, tree swings and see saws, to play on when they visited.

Dalton's favorite hobby was listening to country music. He amassed quite a collection through the years with over 4000 records. He would spend hours making cassette tapes of old country artists to give to his friends.

Sugar (who should probably be listed in the surviving family section), was his dearly loved boxer. She was his constant companion in the latter stages of his Alzheimer's.

By the life he lived, Dalton passed along some very practical and beneficial tools to his sons such as respect, truthfulness, honesty and diligence. He believed that ""there's always a way"" to accomplish the task at hand. He was a tall, strong, and caring man, always willing to help those in need. He is already missed by those who knew and loved him. Dalton was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church in Lufkin.

He is survived by his wife Betty; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Vonnda Seale of Lufkin and Randy and Sheri Seale of Titusville, Florida; grandchildren, Scott Seale, Ashlye Acevedo, Meagan Jones, Mallory Jones, Amber Collins, Josiah Seale, Caleb Seale, Seth Seale, Eli Seale, Jeremiah Seale, Ethan Seale, Josh River, Nate River and Jon River; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Mackenzie Seale, Kaylee Guidroz, Caitlin Graves, Cade Graves and Colby Acevedo; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Edwin (Domino) Dominey; brother, Charles Ray Seale; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna and Harold Robertson and Sarah Singleton; Dalton also leaves a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dalton was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Jane Gober and Katherine Deggs; brothers, Vernon Seale and Bill Seale; granddaughter, Shea Seale; and great-granddaughter, Camryn Collins.

Pallbearers are Scott Seale, Josiah Seale, Caleb Seale, Seth Seale, Eli Seale, Jeremiah Seale and Ethan Seale.
