Marina Martinez

Funeral services for Marina Martinez, 82, of Diboll will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cornerstone Baptist Church (formerly Lakeview Baptist Church) in Diboll with Reverend Jerry Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Martinez was born February 21, 1928 in Fastrill, Texas to the late Rosa (Moreno) and Jose J. Miranda, and died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Martinez moved to Diboll in 1941 from Fastrill, Texas, which was the location of the Southern Pine Lumber Company logging camp. She had been active in the First Baptist Church of Diboll, Burke Baptist Church, Lakeview Baptist Church, and was a charter member of Prairie Chapel Baptist Church, all in the Diboll and Beulah areas.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Martinez of Diboll; sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Delorse Martinez of Diboll and Richard and Pam Martinez of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Judy Martinez Gordon of Frankston; grandchildren, Stephanie Martinez of Diboll; Shaune Martinez and wife Kristie of Sandia, Shelby Rice of Diboll, Katie Daniels and husband Shane of Mesquite, Sara Daniels and husband Josh of Rowlett, Melanie Shirley and husband Keith of Conroe, Shaunna Nolan and husband Richard and Sonia Martinez, all of Frankston; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Sofia Torres of Fremont, California, Frances and Louis Rodriguez, Marie Joslen and Carmen Miranda, all of Diboll; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Bertha Miranda of Lufkin, Isadore and Liz Miranda of Houston, Joe Miranda of Diboll, Frank Miranda of Corrigan and John and Donna Miranda of Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Martinez, Sr.; two infant sons; son, Steve Martinez; sisters, Matilda Macias, Rose Marie Grumbles and Virginia Lona; and brother, Jose J. Miranda, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jarrad Grumbles, Shaune Martinez, Josh Daniels, Shane Daniels, Gerald Malanders and Jason Rodriguez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Hooks and Delbert Ellison.
