Funeral services for William T. ""Bill"" Pennington, Sr., 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Faulk and Dwayne Howell officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Pennington was born January 23, 1930 in Hermitage, Arkansas to the late Fannie (Stuart) and Paul Pennington, and died Monday, March 15, 2010 at his residence. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Pennington had resided in Lufkin since 1957 and was a retired Vice President of the Structural Steel Division of Lufkin Industries. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Arkansas A&M University, graduating in 1955, and then received a Master's degree from Texas A&M University in 1957. Mr. Pennington served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, attached to the U.S. Marine Corps as a medical corpsman, but was first, last and always a Marine and a Texas Aggie. He also served in the Army National Guard where he obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Pennington was a 3rd Degree Master Mason with the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. He was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop 121, and was a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lufkin.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marceline Pennington of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Jenese Groth of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Carrie Pennington of Statesboro, Georgia, Bob and Diane Pennington, Jon and Kari Pennington, all of Lufkin; granddaughters, Jennifer Habets and husband Jared of Savannah, Georgia, Kayce Williams and husband Jett of Statesboro, Georgia, Erin Pennington of Macon, Georgia, and Marcie Pennington of Mt. Vernon, Arkansas; grandsons, Payton Pennington of Murray, Kentucky, Evan Pennington and Ethan Pennington, both of Lufkin; and great-grandsons, Quinn Williams of Statesboro, Georgia and Luke Pennington of Mt. Vernon, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Lyle Carpenter, Dale Hobbs, Michael McLin, Steve Spivey, Albert Stokely and Rush Studinski.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walt Bardwell, Gerry Biggs, John A. McCarty, Ken McPherson, Grant Mitchell, Hollis Mott, Mike Penn, Ben Queen, Jim Sanders, Frank Stevenson, Bill Trout and Harold Lee Westbrook.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or St. Paul's United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 1505 South John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
