Billie Curry Havard

Funeral services for Billie ""Nanny"" Curry Havard, 94, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Curry was born November 1, 1916 in Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas to the late John Curry and Lula (Freeman) Curry, and died Monday, February 21, 2011.

Mrs. Curry had resided in Lufkin most of her life. She married Jack Havard February 5, 1939. She graduated from the first LVN class held at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. She worked at the hospital for 25 years, mostly in surgery. Mrs. Curry was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelyn Whitaker of Huntington; son-in-law, James Little of Lufkin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Turner of Pollok; grandsons, Timothy Little and wife Meredith of Burkeville, David Groce and wife Tracey of Huntington and Richard Little and wife Jennifer of McKinney; great-grandchildren, Trent Turner, Michael Little, Josephine Little, Susan Groce, Shannon Groce, Sarah Groce, Ryan Little and Lauren Little; sister, Barnie Sanders of Garland; sisters-in-law, Georgia Curry and Naomi Curry, both of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Curry was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jack Havard; daughter, Joyce Little; infant daughter, Barbara Ann Havard; brothers, Dude Curry, Isaac ""Shorty"" Curry and James Curry; and sisters, Edith Jenkins and Toy Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Little, Timothy Little, David Groce, Richard Little and Craig Curry.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
