Bona Dixon

Funeral services for Bona ""June"" Dixon, Jr., 87, of Brenham, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grace Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Wisdom and Reverend Elton Musick officiating. Interment will follow in the Poskey Cemetery.

Mr. Dixon was born May 5, 1923 in the Clawson Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late N.B. and Blanche (Poskey) Dixon, and passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Brenham, Texas.

Mr. Dixon was salutatorian of his graduating class at Central High School. He was baptized as a teenager into the Baptist faith at Clawson Baptist Church, where he became a deacon. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. As an employee of Lufkin Industries, Mr. Dixon worked as a machinist and inspector for 44 years. He was a long time member of the International Association of Machinists, Local 1999 and a mason. Mr. Dixon was a former little league coach that kept his love of sports throughout his lifetime. A Democrat and avid quail hunter, he loved working his garden and his cows on his homeplace. His quick wit, sense of humor and daily reading of the Houston Chronicle remained a part of him until the final days of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Gloria (Worsham) Dixon of Brenham; son, Richard Dixon (Judy) of Lubbock; daughter, Barbara ""Poo"" Michalak (Robert) of Brenham; three grandchildren, Sayla Thompson and fianc? Ryan Burke of Denver, Colorado, John Dixon (Andrea Schiro) of Marietta, Georgia, and Dixon Lee Michalak of Brenham; great-grandchildren, Jordan Lee Dixon and Dre Camire, both of Marietta, Georgia; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Annie June Michalak; and his brothers and sister.

Pallbearers will be Ardie Dixon, Dickie Dixon, Ronnie Dixon, Dan Johnson, Glen McDaniel and Mike Worsham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edmund Kelsey, Larry Chapman and David Oates.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 8319 FM 2021, Lufkin, Texas 7590or the American Parkinson Disease Association, East Texas Chapter, 700 Olympic Plaza Suite 904, Tyler, Texas 75701.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
