Funeral services for Henry Wayne Hamilton, 80, of Huntington will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Danny Dow and Luther Bolenbarker officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery.
Mr. Hamilton was born February 7, 1930 in Zavalla, Texas to the late Nancy Ellen (Dykes) and Henry Edward Hamilton. He lost his long battle with lung cancer Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Mr. Hamilton passed away peacefully at his residence.
Mr. Hamilton joined the U.S. Army in January 1951, just after getting married. He was a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 14th Regiment HQ CO during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Hamilton moved to Clute, Texas where he began working for Dow Chemical. While working for Dow, he traveled all over the world to places that include Chili in South America and Canada, Japan and Korea. He retired after 33 1/2 years of employment. Upon retirement, Mr. Hamilton moved back to Huntington where he and his wife enjoyed the last 24 years doing something he truly loved to do, gardening. He was also an active member of the Huntington Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Grimes) Hamilton of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell Lee and Cristy Hamilton of Richwood and Mark Dennis and Barbara Hamilton of Alvin; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith of Clute, Michelle Patrick and husband Derrick of Lake Jackson, Matthew Hamilton of Alvin, Share Sudekum and Nick Sudekum, both of Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren, Cynthia DeGaugh, Devon Patrick, both of Lake Jackson, Jada Taylor-Harris of Lufkin, Morgan Sudekum, Lindsay Moreno and Leslie Moreno, all of Oklahoma.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Hamilton in 2003; and his brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Dykes, Matthew Hamilton, Jeremy Smith, Jerry Hamilton, Tony Grimes and Steve Massey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Hamilton, Al Soap, Clayton Duran, W.D. Baker and W.L. Scott.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
