Funeral services for Maurice Rodgers, 76, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Charles M. Roberts and Brother Kevin Roy officiating. Military graveside services will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Rodgers was born October 23, 1933 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Essie Lee (Landrum) and I.T. Rodgers, and died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mr. Rodgers was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Champion Paper Mill following 37 years of employment. Mr. Rodgers was a deacon at Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris J. Rodgers of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Matt Strong of Lufkin; son, Thomas Rodgers of Lufkin; grandson, Hunter Strong of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmie and Doris Ann Rodgers of Hudson and Johnny and Lela Rodgers of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Pauline Bennett of Grapeland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Carolyn Brookshire of Hardin; aunts and uncle, Mamie and Glenn Stephens of La Porte and Geneva Rodgers of Athens; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his son, Danny Rodgers; brother-in-law, Robert Bennett; and nephew, Keith Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Greg Alexander, Ken Reeves, Karol Green, Ronnie Lusk, Glennis Price, Denton McCoy, Charles Wheat and Charles Parham.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
