William Walter Bryant

William Walter Bryant, MD, 85, of Lufkin passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born April 16, 1924 in Evarts, Kentucky, to the late Eliza (Parker) and William Walter Bryant, Sr.
Dr. Bryant graduated from high school in Wallins, Kentucky, and entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He had basic training in Camp Crowder, Missouri, and was discharged as a Private First Class in 1946. Dr. Bryant did his pre-med at the University of Chicago and graduated from Ohio State Medical in December 1946. He interned at the San Diego Naval Hospital from 1946 to 1947 and ran a general practice in Senecaville, Ohio from 1948 to 1952.
Dr. Bryant was recalled as a Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Psychiatry courses at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital for five months, from June to October, and was sent to the Naval Medical Center in San Diego for two years as a First Lieutenant.
Dr. Bryant returned to Senecaville as a General Practitioner and was a charter member of the Academy of General Practice. From June 1962 to 1965 he completed a 3 year residency at Ohio State and was then a Board Certified Radiologist. In 1965 Dr. Bryant entered the practice of Radiology at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, Texas. He retired as Chief of the Department of Radiology, and after his retirement practiced locum tenens for some time.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Bird Bryant; two daughters, Cathy Jean Splawn and husband Ray of Jasper and Barbara Ann Havens of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Lucia Bryant Smith; five grandchildren, Bryant S. Smith, Patti Jean Lofton and husband Reagan, John Havens and wife Michaela, Parker Havens and William Walter Bryant IV; and three great-grandsons, William Walter Bryant V, Aiden W. Lofton and Beau Havens.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Bryant was preceded in death by his son, William Walter Bryant III.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in Senecaville, Ohio. Services there will be directed by Black-Epperson Funeral Home (740) 685-2525.
