Otis Eugene Clark

Funeral services for Otis Eugene ""Gene"" Clark, 71, of Huntington will be held Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Huntington United Methodist Church with Reverend Martin B. Doran officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Rocky Springs/Old Center Cemetery under the auspices of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M.

Otis was born in Huntington, Texas August 9, 1938. He was one of the 12 children born to Otis and Macie (Arnold) Clark. He was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School, and served two years in the United States Army. Otis worked 28 years for the Texas Department of Transportation as a lab tech. He was also an insurance agent for more than 20 years for Germania Insurance.

Otis had been a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M., since 1973. He served as Junior and Senior Deacon, Junior and Senior Warden, Junior and Senior Steward and Tiler. He was also the Master of the Lodge from 1980-1981. In 2009 he was presented the Golden Trowel Award for outstanding service. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #938.

Otis was a member of Huntington United Methodist Church. His greatest love was his family and spoiling his four beautiful granddaughters.

His hobbies included farming, toying with his tractors, shelling peas and grinding corn meal. He was known as ""The Corn Meal Man"" because he ground fresh corn meal for people throughout the county. His idea of a small garden would be a truck farm to most people. He loved to raise a crop and share with his close family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Nicole Clark; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Jeremy Holder; and four granddaughters, Ashton and Katlyn Clark, and Sydney and Hayleigh Holder. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Denman, Polly and Pete White, all of Huntington, Vera McGaughey of Hudson, and Betty and Bill Hamilton of Baker, Louisiana; brothers and sister-in-law, Billy and Linda Clark of Huntington, George Clark and Paul Clark, both of Lufkin; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special friends include Gleena Nerren, Doug Hughes, Charles Lovett, Frank Edge and Bobby Hawkins.

His father Otis, mother Macie, brother Aaron Clark, and sister Gracie McGaughey preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 890, Huntington, Texas, 75949, Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery, 1033 Hyde Road, Huntington, Texas 75949, or Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.

So many people loved Otis. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to help anyone. He lived his life by spreading brotherly love and affection. He will always be remembered for his joking personality and his smile.
