Bertie Willis Cook

Bertie Willis Cook, 101, of Lufkin, formerly of Dallas, was born July 12, 1909 in Forest Hill, Louisiana to the late Ida (Rutherford) and Lemuel Willis. She died Saturday, August 14, 2010 in a Lufkin nursing facility. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cook was a retired public school teacher. She taught at Rosemont Elementary School in the Dallas I.S.D. for 35 years. Mrs. Cook was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, and formerly resided in Dallas for 46 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Cook of Bainbridge Island, Washington; granddaughter, Melanie Astin of Newport Beach, California; grandson, Daniel Thorpe of Santa Monica, California; great-grandchildren, Christian Cockerell and Nichole Cockerell, both of Newport Beach, California; as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otha B. Cook, and nine brothers and sisters.
