Funeral services for Charlie Lee Deering, 82, of Pollok will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Gene Hazell officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Deering was born July 26, 1928 in Ridgely, Tennessee to the late Edna Mae (Oliver) and John Thomas Deering. He died Friday, August 20, 2010 in a local hospital.
Charlie was a retired welder for U.S. Steel and a member of the Indiana National Guard. He was of the Baptist faith, and had resided in Pollok for the past 32 years.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, LaVerne Deering of Pollok; children and their spouses, Kathleen Andersen of Huntington, Marilyn and Steve Carlin of Pollok, Sue and Jerry Szikora of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Garry and Cyndi Hessling of Fort Meyers, Florida; grandchildren, Tara Hessling, Tiffany Taylor, Kim and Cody Adams, Michelle and William Compton, Michael Lisenby, SPC Steven Kyle Carlin, Nicholas Basey, Shelby Basey and Jon Thomas Basey; great-grandchildren, Riley Duffala, Blake and Cory Taylor, and Kaleb and Braiden Adams.
Mr. Deering was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Deering and Bill Deering; and son-in-law, Gene Andersen.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Basey, Jon Thomas Basey, SPC Steven Kyle Carlin, Michael Lisenby, Cody Adams and Ron Ulrich.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
