Funeral services for Ellouise Gibson Morris, 93, of Apple Springs will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carpenter's Way Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Trinity County.
Ms. Morris was born January 23, 1918 in Apple Springs, Texas to the late Milton and Ida (Lovett) Gibson, both of whom were from early Trinity County families. Her great-grandfather Dr. Evander Gandy was a longtime doctor in the area and was also a veteran of the War Between the States. Ms. Morris passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in a local hospital.
Her education began in a small school house north of Apple Springs and ended when she graduated from Groveton High School in 1936. She then worked for her uncle, Walter Hooks, at his store in Groveton.
In 1941 she married Charles Morris in Beaumont, Texas and they had one child, who she raised with love and devotion after their parting in 1955.
The 60's came and she went to work for the company that started the first home health agency in the State of Texas. Retiring in 1987, she continued to be active in every way. She loved to cook and was always in the kitchen.
Ms. Morris' other interests included several local patriotic organizations of whom she was a charter member: Major Robert Peyton Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, Angelina Chapter, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Joseph Nelson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and William N. Glenn Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a past member of the William Gann Chapter, Daughters of 1812. Ms. Morris also enjoyed her membership in the Flower Garden Club of Lufkin.
Ms. Morris was a member of Carpenter's Way Baptist Church. Her church activities included the Tel-Sonshine Bible study class, TNT Seniors Group, and until recently the Blueprint Committee.
After suffering a stroke several years ago, her handicap did not slow her down and she remained active until her blessed life came to a close.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Morris of Apple Springs; sister, Geneva Hooks of Kingwood; niece, Lise Hooks and husband Ed Carr of Houston; cousins, Reverend Douglas DuBose, Delta Gilliam, Bo Lovett, Lynn R. Lovett and Eleanor Garrett; and special friends, Laritta White, Sara Kurth and Mr. and Mrs. John Rowin.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Morris was preceded in death by a very special cousin, Joe DuBose.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hicks, Robert Kurth, Roy Kurth, Randy Mizell, Gary Stephens and Bruce Walding.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kent DuBose, Raymond Lovett and Ben Pyle.
