Graveside services for Charles ""Pops"" Smith, 81, of Pollok will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sand Flat Cemetery with Brother Bob Harbuck officiating.
Mr. Smith was born July 8, 1929 in San Augustine County, Texas to the late Estelle (Hillyer) and Claudie Smith, and died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Smith attended school in Woden and was a 50 year resident of Pollok. He was a cowboy, and loved horses. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting and was a big baseball fan. He played semi-pro baseball, and his favorite team was the Detroit Tigers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary A. Smith of Pollok; sons, John Smith of Pollok and Danny Ray Smith of Lewisville; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Terry O'Quinn of Pollok; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.T. and Agnes Smith of Lufkin and Rual and Patricia Smith of Carthage; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Bell, Stevie Martin, Roy Redd, Bobby Tucker, Roy Gene Williams and Garland Penny. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Gordon Bell and Billy Joe Creekmore.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 1320 South John Redditt Drive, Suite A, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
