Funeral services for Glyn C. Whitton, Sr., 78, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Walter Futch officiating and Dean Jones serving as honorary speaker. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum.
Mr. Whitton was born November 3, 1932 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Edna (Busch) and Walter Whitton, and died Sunday, January 16, 2011 peacefully at his home with his wife by his side.
Glyn graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Champion Paper Mill after 35 years of service. Mr. Whitton was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M., and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Jolly Seniors Sunday school class.
Glyn was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of various hunting clubs and organizations. He was known as a great teller of tales of life experiences.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jo Ann Whitton of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Steve Henson of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, Glyn ""Bubba"", Jr. and Sheila Whitton of San Leon; grandchildren, Clay Henson, Zachary Henson and Kial Whitton; and numerous friends.
Pallbearers will be Weldon Gordon, James Holloway, Joe Thigpen, Larry Jordan, Ron Stubblefield, Clay Henson and Zachary Henson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jolly Seniors Sunday school class.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 2909 East Lufkin Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
