Mitchell Christopher

Funeral services for Mitchell Christopher, 88, of Bald Hill, will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Reverend Richard Joseph officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Christopher was born January 5, 1923 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to the late Dovie (Mitchell) and Julian Christopher. He died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Pinecrest nursing facility.

Mr. Christopher had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He retired after 30 years of service from Armco Steel as a crane operator. Mr. Christopher served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marie Hopson Christopher of Bald Hill; daughter, Barbara Philpott of Bald Hill; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Christopher of Bald Hill, Joe and Carolyn Christopher of Houston; grandchildren, David Christopher, Michael Philpott, Nicole Christopher, Chris Philpott, Austin Philpott, Andrew Christopher and Amanda Christopher; eight great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Maudell Christopher of Lufkin, Billy Joe and Pat Christopher of Bald Hill; sister, Ruby Brier of Bald Hill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Christopher, David Christopher, Dustin Ennis, Kippy Hopson, Keith Carroll, Kenny Carroll and Kris Hopson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael, Chris and Austin Philpott.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
