Marie Ainsworth Westerman

Funeral services for Marie Ainsworth Westerman, 96, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel, 2704 South John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, with Reverend Jimmy Hedges and Reverend Jim Tom Ainsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Ivie Cemetery in Houston County.
Mrs. Westerman was born September 20, 1913 in Kennard, Texas to Tom and Minnie Ainsworth, and went to be with her Lord Tuesday, March 23, 2010 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Westerman spent most of her childhood in Kennard and Nacogdoches. She was one of seven sisters and four brothers. In high school she participated on the debate team, and she was part of a singing quartet that performed in various local churches. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Mrs. Westerman married Grover Westerman of Kennard and they had a family of four children. She taught school in Kennard and Austonia. She and her husband were owners of Westerman General Merchandise in Kennard and she worked alongside her husband for many years in the store. Mr. and Mrs. Westerman were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After her husband's death in 1991, she was able to live in her home and take care of all her affairs up until the time of her death.
Mrs. Westerman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter Charlotte. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Harvey, Herman, Cloyce and Lloyd Ainsworth; and her sisters, Lillian Dominey, Mammie Dee Parker, Vivian Curry, Thelma Hasha and Louise Hanna.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tucker and Elizabeth Westerman of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and John Rolf of Cypress, Texas, and daughter Judy Jordan Barbour of Kingwood, Texas. Grandchildren and spouses include Ann Westerman of Texarkana, Charles and Jan Westerman of Lufkin, Lisa Rolf Barfield of Cypress, Lori Rolf Moore and husband Bret of Williston, North Dakota, Kevin Jordan of Magnolia, Texas and Rhonda Jordan Kersting and husband Toner of Kingwood. Great-grandchildren are Clark and Hanna Westerman, John and Wesley Barfield, Tyler and Kody Jordon, and Kaleb and Kendall Kersting. Mrs. Westerman is also survived by her sister Erma Guidry of Deer Park, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tom Kelly Byrne, Bill Ainsworth, Joe Ainsworth, Jerry Ainsworth, Jimmy Guidry, Freddy Guidry, Thomas Guidry and Dennis Worsham.
The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice in the Pines for all their loving care during Marie's final days before her death.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
