Anne Tucker East

Graveside services for Anne Joyce ""Joy"" Tucker East, 77, of Lufkin will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mexia Cemetery in Mexia, Texas with Brother Charles M. Roberts and Brother Ron Meadows officiating. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Charles M. Roberts, Brother Kevin Roy and Brother Ron Meadows officiating.

Mrs. East was born October 24, 1933 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Craig Brown Tucker and Mabel (Horseman) Tucker. She went to meet the Lord Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Mrs. East was reared in Kingsport, Tennessee. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Donald ""Don"" East, February 23, 1952. After he finished college in 1958 they moved to Calhoun, Tennessee and joined the Calhoun Baptist Church, where she was instrumental in starting the library. In 1973 they moved to Lufkin and joined Denman Avenue Baptist Church. She worked in the library at the church for 30 years and because of her dedication, it was later renamed the Joy East Media Center in her honor.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 59 years, Don East of Lufkin; daughters, Donna Kaye East of Lufkin and Debra Sue Allen of Mexia; granddaughters, Becky Allen of Austin and Stacie Carroll of Groesbeck; great-grandchildren, Jayden and McKenzie Guandique of Groesbeck; sisters, Marilyn Walton and husband Albert of Kingsport, Tennessee and Betty Ayre of Fort Myers, Florida; brother-in-law, Robert East of Kingsport, Tennessee; and a number of nieces and nephews from Tennessee and Florida.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lewis Sikes Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joy East Media Center at Denman Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1351, Lufkin, Texas 75902, or Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
