Gordon Ralph Squyres

Funeral services for Gordon Ralph Squyres, 81, of Lufkin will be held Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with interment following the services. Brother Harold Sloan will be officiating.

Mr. Squyres was born August 18, 1928 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Mae (Scroggins) and Bunk Squyres, and died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mr. Squyres was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed with the Southland Paper Mill for 25 years. Mr. Squyres also owned and operated the Peco Shell Service Station and was a salesman for various car dealerships. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Jerry Quarles of Leander; sons and daughters-in-law, Drew and Sally Squyres and Trent and Charlene Squyres, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Michael Lazarine of Lindale, Matthew Lazarine and wife Sarah of Whitehouse, Scott Rushing of Austin, Mark Squyres of Lufkin, Derek Constante, Crystal Galloway and husband Bryan, all of Lufkin, Kelly Quarles of Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Dr. Dana Quarles of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Emilie Lazarine of Whitehouse, Zoey Galloway, Trinity Galloway and Aden Constante, all of Lufkin, Riley Quarles of Jefferson City, Tennessee and Wiley Quarles of San Antonio; brother, Reginald Squyres; sister-in-law, Kathryn Squyres; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Squyres was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Squyres; grandson, Paul Squyres; sisters, Rachel Perry Dowling, Ruth Grant and Margaret Smithhart; and brother, Bryce Squyres.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Squyres' nephews.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
