Funeral services for Clara C. Evans, 88, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Gary Trevieo officiating.

Mrs. Evans was born July 11, 1922 in Schulenburg, Texas to the late Albina (Tabola) and Joseph Orsak, and passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 in a local hospital.

During World War II, Mrs. Evans and a sister left Schulenburg to work in Fort Worth, Texas, for Consolidated Aircraft, building B-24 bombers for the war effort. There she met her future husband, George Evans, after he was discharged from the U.S. Navy. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and they were stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington, Ft. Bliss, Texas and White Sands Missile Base, New Mexico before making Lufkin their home. After marriage she was a full time homemaker, raising her three sons.

Mrs. Evans had been a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since 1955, when her husband, M/Sgt. George Evans, was assigned Army Recruiting duties in the East Texas area. She was also a member of the 6-0 Club and the Ladies' Guild.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Evans and Gloria Montes of Nacogdoches, Mike and Pat Evans and Kenneth and Robbie Evans, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Joey Evans and wife Carissa, Nikki Evans Wallace and husband Heath, Kenneth Evans, Jr. and wife April, Kimberly Evans McGuire and husband Jon, and Courtney Evans Willis and husband Bryan; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Emma Evans, Campbell Wallace, Karly McGuire and Karsen Evans; sisters and brother-in-law, Judy Baca of El Campo, Martha Dittrich of Santa Fe, and Emma and Art Avanzato of Hackensack, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Lillian Orsak of Schulenburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George William Evans; and brothers, Edwin Earl Orsak and Ladislav (Laddie) Orsak.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Evans' grandsons, Joey Evans, Kenneth Evans, Jr., Jon McGuire, Heath Wallace and Bryan Willis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ladies' Guild at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2118 Lowery Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or to the charity of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
