Graveside services for Edith E. Kurtz, 91, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Weatherford.
Mrs. Kurtz died Friday, April 2, 2010. She was born May 23, 1918 in Huntsville, Alabama, the eldest child of Lexie (Throneberry) and Alvie H. Shafer, Sr. She was baptized at and a member in earlier years of Heritage Bay Church in Huntsville, Alabama.
Edith married her childhood sweetheart ant they had three children of that marriage: James W. Brooks, Jr., Elaine Brooks Fuller and Sunny (Carol) Brooks Feldpausch. They later divorced although they remained friends all their lives.
Edith then met and married John C. Kurtz of Farmers Branch, Texas. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he was stationed during the Korean Conflict. Edith and Johnny lived in Alaska until 1976 when they moved to Weatherford, Texas and bought a retirement home. There they stayed until Johnny died in 1994. Due to her grieving over the death of her husband, Edith became frail and found it to be desirable to move in with her daughter and son-in-law, Sunny and Gary Feldpausch of Huntington, Texas.
Mrs. Kurtz is survived by her son, James W. Brooks; daughters, Elaine Fuller and Sunny Feldpausch; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Benson and Joy Norman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
