Robert C. Hicks

Funeral services for Robert C. ""Bob"" Hicks, 89, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with interment following the services. Dr. Andy Pittman will officiate.

Mr. Hicks was born April 23, 1921 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Beulah (McMullen) and James Herbert Hicks, and died Sunday, October 31, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mr. Hicks was a 1939 graduate of Lufkin High School, where he played Lufkin Panther football. He attended the University of Texas before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Hicks was an industrial engineer at the Texas Foundry for 38 years. He was very involved with the Lufkin High School Alumni Association and formerly refereed high school football.

Mr. Hicks was an active member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school in the Junior Department for many years and was currently a member of the Friendly Sunday school class.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Katherine Hicks of Lufkin; son, Steve Hicks of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Spencer of Lufkin; special granddaughter, Callie Letney of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Ann Hicks of Dallas and Woodie Hicks of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his son, Ray Andrews Hicks; and brothers, R.M. ""Bull"" Hicks and Harvey Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendly Sunday school class of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
