Graveside services for Rosabel McGilvra, 86, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Berry Cemetery with Reverend Jerry Anderson officiating.

Mrs. McGilvra was born March 24, 1924 in Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma to the late Leona Bell (Garrison) and Arthur Lloyd Shinn, and died Saturday, June 12, 2010 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. McGilvra graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, then began to work for Western Union. She married the love of her life, Chester J. McGilvra, July 23, 1945 at the First Methodist Church in San Angelo. All of her married life they lived in Lufkin, where Chester worked at the paper mill. They enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing together. After Chester died in 1998 she continued to live in their home until December 2004 when she moved to the Meadows. Mrs. McGilvra resided there until March 2009 when she entered the hospital and later Castle Pines Nursing Home. She was pianist for several different churches in the Lufkin area, and was a member of Homer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Shinn Hunter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Betty McGilvra Moore of Lufkin and Helen White Shinn of Boerne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGilvra was preceded in death by her husband, Chester J. McGilvra; sister, Lucille Johnston; brother, Harvey Shinn; and half-brother, Bill Shinn.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
