Funeral services for Bennie J. ""Papa"" Mayo, Sr., 81, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Billy Knight and Brother William Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan.

Mr. Mayo was born March 14, 1929 in Jacksonville, Texas to the late Effie (Blanton) and Thomas J. Mayo, and died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in a local hospital. He resided in Lufkin most of his life and retired from Temple-Inland following 30 years of service. Mr. Mayo was a member of the Wallace Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Mayo of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Mayo and Ben and Ellen Mayo, all of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jim Lambert of Lufkin; son-in-law, Bobby Alderman of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Marianne Mayo, Gary Michael and Lily Mayo, Keith and Melissa Alderman, Kimberly and Lorne Ray, T.J. Mayo, Sue Ellen Mayo, Kevin Trevathan and Amanda and Billy Cravy; 15 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Frances Mayo of Diboll; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carroll and Verma Ivey of Diboll; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayo was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Alderman; granddaughter, Renee Mullin; two brothers; and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Keith Alderman, Gary Michael Mayo, T.J. Mayo, Kevin Trevathan, Lorne Ray and Billy Cravy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie McDonald, Arthur Windsor, B.J. Brewer and Scott Ivey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallace Chapel Baptist Church, 103 Brooks Hendry Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
