Jack Earl Bates

Memorial services for Jack Earl Bates, 69, of Zavalla, will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Wayne Burden officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Bates was born April 12, 1941 in Silsbee, Texas to the late Bertha Ellen (Liser) and Lloyd Arthur Bates. He died Friday, January 14, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Bates had lived in Zavalla for the past 34 years and was a former resident of Silsbee. He was formerly employed as a welder for Lufkin Industries for 11 years. Mr. Bates was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved to grill and barbeque for his family and friends. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Barbara Bates of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, David and Pam Bates of Willis; daughter, Tammie McDonald of Zavalla; grandchildren, Brennen Bates and wife Candace, Bearen Bates, Baylen Bates, all of Willis, and Justin McDonald of Zavalla; great grandson, Cadence Bates of Willis; brother and sister-in-law, James W. and Sandra Bates of Lenoir City, Tennessee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Bates' grandsons.
