James C. Erwin

Memorial services for James C. ""Jimmy"" Erwin, 85, of Longview will be held Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andy Pittman officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Erwin was born October 7, 1925 in Alto, Texas to the late Elmina (Berryman) and James Clay Erwin, Sr., and died Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Longview.

A resident of Lufkin most of his life, Mr. Erwin had resided in Longview for four years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and received two Bronze Stars for Valor, as well as a Pacific Campaign Medal and Nation of Merit Medal. He retired from Gipson Funeral Home, where he was a Funeral Directors' Assistant for 30 years. Mr. Erwin was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Tom Erwin of Dallas; grandchildren, Kristen Erwin, Lindsey and Bradley Clement, Clay Erwin and Walker Erwin; brother and sister-in-law, Miller and Ruth Erwin of Huntsville; sister, Sara Holze of Waco; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Chastain Erwin.
