Funeral services for Velma J. Thompson Manley, 97, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery.
Mrs. Manley was born June 28, 1913 in Angelina County, Texas, to the late Allen Prudenie Ann ""Denna"" Simpson and Claude Laferral Thompson. She died Friday, May 6, 2011 in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Mrs. Manley was a retired Food Service employee for the Lufkin Independent School District following 15 years of service. She was also a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Manley was an excellent cook, she loved to fish, and she was a mother to her entire family. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and had lived in the Lufkin area all her life.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Nelda Manley of Lufkin; her daughter, Beverly Haskins of Lufkin; her son, Ray Manley of Lufkin; grandsons, Stephen Manley, Tracey Manley, Brent Manley, Glenn Haskins and Bradley Haskins; great grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, Briar and Kolbi Manley, Whitney, Shelby, Lexie, Hayden and LaLana Haskins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Manley was preceded in death by her husband, John J. (Jack) Manley; son, Jackson LeRoy Manley; granddaughter, Robyn Manley; her parents; and two brothers and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Manley, Tracey Manley, Brent Manley, Glenn Haskins, Bradley Haskins and Eddie Williams.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
