Ronald Joe Christopher

Ronald Joe Christopher, 68, lost his battle with chronic illness Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Lufkin, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home, with memorial services to be held at a later date.

Mr. Christopher was an only child, born September 2, 1942 in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of the late Willis ""Jack"" Kavanaugh and Doris Faye (Watson) Christopher. Following graduation from Longview High School in 1960, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and The University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He graduated from The University of Texas in 1965 with a Bachelor?s degree in Business Administration. He graduated from South Texas College of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in Houston, Texas in 1978.

Mr. Christopher practiced as an Attorney in Giddings, Texas and Houston, Texas for the majority of his career. He was a member of the Texas State Bar Association. Throughout his adulthood, he remained active in the Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and lived life according to the organization?s values of integrity, intellect, success, high moral character, and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience.

Mr. Christopher is survived by four children: Scott and Sherry Christopher of Nacogdoches, Texas, Karen and Van Watson of Lufkin, Texas, Lara Christopher Chapman of Giddings, Texas and Mary Gail and Kevin McCarty of Lufkin, Texas; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him.

Mr. Christopher touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor ?til the end.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the wonderful people who gave such compassionate care for Ron in his time of need at Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
