Katherine Andrews Hicks

Funeral services for Katherine Andrews Hicks, 90, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with interment following the services. Reverend Aubrey Knox will officiate.

Mrs. Hicks was born April 19, 1921 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Clara (Adams) and Alex G. Andrews, and died Thursday, May 26, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Hicks was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1938 and worked at Lufkin Federal Savings & Loan for more than 25 years. After retirement she substituted at Redland Elementary. Mrs. Hicks loved to read and play bridge. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, had been a member of Lufkin?s First Baptist Church for 85 years, and was currently in the Amity-Joy Sunday school class.

Survivors include her son, Steve Hicks of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Spencer of Lufkin; special granddaughter, Callie Letney of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Ann Hicks of Dallas and Woodie Hicks of Lufkin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hicks; son, Ray Andrews Hicks; and sister, Helen Stewart.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
