Funeral services for E.H. ""Dick"" Murphy, 81, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bob Killiam officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Murphy was born April 5, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Hannis (Cumby) and Harvey Murphy. He died Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Lufkin, following a brief illness.

Dick or Pappy Murphy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Murphy retired from Sysco Foods as a salesman.

He is survived by his son, David E. Murphy of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa L. and Richard Hopson of Lufkin and Paula and John Martin of Georgia; grandchildren, Dori and Eric Lair of Lufkin, Ryan and Kelly Hopson of Lindale, Christie Murphy, SSG Chris Murphy and Allie Murphy of Shreveport, Louisiana, Kolby Hopson of Lufkin, Patricia Griffith and husband Owen of Georgia, and Christine Fillyaw and husband Thomas of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Blaise, Bransen, Braden, and Breece Cathcart of Lufkin, Barrett and Jack Ryan Hopson of Lindale, Carter and Lane Lair of Lufkin, John David, Haley and William Kessler, and Asher Griffith of Georgia, Jeremy and Josh Briggs of California; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lola and Jeff Hanchey of Huntington, Emo Jean Walters of Huntington, Glenn T. and Jo Harrison of Etoile, E.B. Berry of Huntington, and Marthalene Harrison of Fort Worth; cousin, Viola Wells of Tomball; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Loy Beth Murphy; mother and father, Hannis and Harvey Murphy; daughter, Deborah Ann Briggs; sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Nerren and Norene Berry; and brother-in-law, Rayford Harrison.

Pallbearers will be David Murphy, Travis Nerren, Frank Williams, Kevin Green, Eric Lair and Richard Hopson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Berry, David Glenn Harrison, Greg Harrison, Wendell Harrison, Tim Harrison, Blaise Cathcart, Bransen Cathcart, Braden Cathcart, Breece Cathcart, Barrett Hopson and Jack Ryan Hopson.
