Funeral services for Wendell Weisinger, 84, of Diboll will be held Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Pinckney Love officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Weisinger was born April 17, 1927 in Burke, Texas to Homer and Elizabeth (Trotti) Weisinger, who, along with his brother Ralph and daughter Carolyn Hudlow, preceded him in death. Mr. Weisinger died Wednesday, June 13, 2011 in a local nursing home.
Mr. Weisinger grew up in the Burke/Diboll area, served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve from 1945-1951, married Ima Riley in 1947, and moved to Port Arthur in 1948, where all their children were born and where he worked for Price & Company for nearly 20 years. They then moved to the North Shore area of Houston where he was co-owner and operator of Northshore Mobile Service Center, a U-Haul distributor, and a related trucking concern for nearly 20 years. Mr. Weisinger was a lifetime member of the Houston Model A Club and owned and restored three Model A?s and a 1940 Ford. Following his retirement in 1990, they returned to the Burke/Diboll area where he and Ima have been members of the Burke United Methodist Church since their return. Mr. Weisinger loved Bob Wills and the era of western swing music and he and Ima attended many a Western Swing Festival.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ima Jean Weisinger; daughter, Judy McAngus and her husband Dan of New Braunfels; sons, Tommy Weisinger of Diboll and Terry Weisinger of Livingston; son-in-law, Fred Hudlow of Houston; granddaughters, Gwen Norris, Aleceia McClendon, Heather McAngus Barone and husband Derek, Ashley McAngus Schwaegel and husband Bobby, and Chelsea Weisinger; great-grandchildren, Austin, Paige, Tatum, Maddy, Cade and Grant; sister-in-law, Dorine Weisinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dan McAngus, Fred Hudlow, Billy Don Weisinger, Austin McClendon, Bill Coleman and Joe Thigpen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Mission Health & Rehab, 900 South Temple Drive, Diboll, Texas 75941, Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or the Alzheimer?s Association, Greater East Texas Chapter, P.O. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
