Memorial services for Melba Sikes Parker, 72, of Rockport will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Keltys First Baptist Church in Lufkin with Brother Eddie Ballard officiating.
Ms. Parker was born September 9, 1938 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Augusta (Latham) and William ""Bill"" Sikes, and died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at her residence.
Ms. Parker resided in Lufkin most of her life and had lived in Rockport for 10 years. She retired from Lufkin Industries and was a reserve peace officer. Ms. Parker loved being around the water, and loved to fish. She enjoyed spending time with family, and especially loved her grandkids, actively keeping up with what was going on in their life. She was devoted to her dog, Max. Ms. Parker was a member of Rockport?s 55 and over social club, and attended the First Baptist Church of Rockport. She was a longtime member of Keltys First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Joe Parker of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Matt Parker of Denver, Colorado, Kerry Parker and wife Isabel of Pearland and Kelly Parker of Crosby; grandchildren, Ryan Parker of Tokyo, Japan, Emily Parker of Garland, Abigail Parker of Gilbert, Arizona and Caleb Parker of Crosby; brothers, Bobby Sikes of Brainerd, Minnesota and Jim Sikes of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Parker was preceded in death by her son, Michael Parker; and brother, Leon Sikes.
