Funeral services for Jesse C. Cox, 85, of Bald Hill, will be held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Barry Stevens and Pastor Jerry Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Cox was born October 28, 1925 in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Bonnie B. (Griffin) and Noah C. Cox. He died Friday, June 17, 2011 at his residence in Bald Hill.
Mr. Cox had lived in the Bald Hill Community all his life. He was a retired research chemist for Champion Paper Mill. Mr. Cox served his county in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Homer First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and working on his tractor at his farm.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nell Cox of Bald Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Susan Cox of San Augustine; daughter-in-law, Marcia Waller of Lufkin; grandchildren, John Cox of Austin, Cathy Walker and husband Robert of Huntington, Carrie Johnson and husband Christopher of Bald Hill, Cody Cox and fiancée Rachel Mattila of Nacogdoches; great grandchildren, Haleigh Reed and Nicholas Moore; sister and brother-in-law, Elma Lee and Veachel Thompson of San Antonio; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Fannie Cox of Clawson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Clay Cox; brother, Oran Cox; and sister, Opal Miller.
Pallbearers will be John Cox, Cody Cox, Nicholas Moore, Louis Brown, Robert Walker and Chris Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Cox, Ronnie Cox, Ricky Cox, Tommy D. Miller, Clarence Miller, Dan Cox and Johnny Crain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery, 988 Sam Baird Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
