Memorial services for Charlie Elbel, 54, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Richard Joseph officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Charlie was born June 7, 1957 in Melbourne, Florida, to the late Geraldine Yvonne ""Bonnie"" (Humphreys) and Kenneth W. ""Schnappsie"" Elbel. He died Friday, June 17, 2011 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Charlie was the co-owner of The Great Outdoors landscaping company for the past 25 years. He loved his family more than anything. Charlie raised six beautiful children, and touched many lives of many others through his devotion to the Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Little League baseball, and Little Dribblers basketball. Formerly a resident of Nacogdoches, he had lived in Lufkin for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Terri Elbel of Lufkin; daughters, Jennifer Irene Elbel and Kelly Lee Elbel, both of Austin; sons, Neil Taylor Elbel of Woodbridge, Virginia, Myles Evan Elbel, Dane Richmond Elbel, and Jesse Colin Elbel, all of Lufkin; grandson, Isaac Elbel; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and George Technik of New Braunfels; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Edila Jackson of Macae, Brazil; nephews, Andrew Webb, Clinton Webb, Hunter Technik, Nicholas Jackson and Anthony Jackson; and uncle and aunt, Roger and Cathy Humphreys.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be the scouts of Troop 518 and every boy he ever coached in baseball, especially the outfield.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
