Funeral services for Ed Bond, 73, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Central Church of Christ in Lufkin with Dr. Eli Borden officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Bond was born October 5, 1937 in Teague, Freestone County, Texas to the late Lucy Matilda (Mackey) and William Butler Bond. He died Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Lee County, Texas from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Bond was a retired Certified Public Accountant, having formerly been employed with Fleetwood Transportation and the Angelina County Auditor?s Office. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, and also a former member of the East Texas and Texas Societies of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Bond was a Defensive Driving instructor for Angelina College, and he also prepared tax returns for friends and other individuals. He was a member and a deacon of the Central Church of Christ, and had resided in Lufkin for the past 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gaye Bond of Lufkin; son, Kenneth Bond of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and David Powell of Lufkin; three grandchildren, Max Bond, Kayla Powell and Alyssa Powell; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Bond, Willie Bond, Benny Bond, and Bowlen Bond; and only sister, Frances Stone.
Pallbearers will be Larry H. Bonner, Paul White, Mark Prowell, Delbert Richardson, Dick Bodeker and Windell Thomason.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Slack, Joe Ragan, and his fellow deacons at Central Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to Central Church of Christ Building Fund, 711 North Second St., Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
