Funeral services for Carrol Eugene Farris, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Carrol was born December 15, 1930 in Madisonville, Texas to Nab Chappell and Viola (Strickland) Farris, the third of 11 children born into this family. He passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in a local nursing home.
Carrol served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Seoul; he served as a mechanic in the motor pool. He later worked as a radiographic engineer for Elder & McNulty, living all over the United States and in Spain. Carrol settled in the Lufkin area for the rest of his life.
Carrol was an avid bowler for many years; he loved working in his garden and yard. He could fix anything with his hands and he never tired of talking about his days of farming and raising cows. Carrol was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Carrol is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karol Sue and Clyde Herrington, daughter, Dee Anne Farris, granddaughter, Maci Jan Herrington, grandson, Adam James Herrington, all of Lufkin; brothers, Alfred Wilson Farris of Whitehouse and Billy Ray Farris of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters, Doris Marie Hardin of Lafayette, Louisiana, Janie May McGhee of Highlands, Betty Lou Crain of Lufkin, and Nancy Ann Mickel of Baytown; mother of his children, Sue Farris of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Audrey Farris, Travis Jones, Lafaye Perkins, Murel Thomason, Harold and Maxine Malnar, Steve and Margie Stephens; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Sue Jones; and brothers, Royal Edgar Farris, Floyd Dean Farris and Douglas Chappell Farris.
Pallbearers will be Steve Stephens, Charles Ray Russell, Harold Wood, Royal Stephen Farris, Donnie Kee and Adam Herrington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
