Joe Parker

Funeral services for Joe Parker, 85, of Hudson were held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Dr. John W. Greene and Reverend Roy Carroway, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Parker was born July 18, 1926 in Lufkin, Texas to Sally (Tucker) and Wiley Thomas Parker, Sr. He died Sunday, August 14, 2011 in a Galveston hospital.

Mr. Parker was a retired building contractor and the owner of Joe Parker Construction. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keltys, and was a lifetime resident of Lufkin.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mavis Parker of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Mike Murphy of Hudson; son, Joey Parker of Hudson; grandchildren and their spouses, Angie and David McLelland, Brandon and Kelly Stephens, April and Zach Richey, Autumn Parker and Dylan Parker; great-grandchildren, Caden and Carlye McLelland, Laurynn and Jaxson Stephens, and Preslee and Aubree Richey; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents and 16 brothers and sisters.
