Lenwood Short

Funeral services for Lenwood Short, 84, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gary Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs/Old Center Cemetery.
Mr. Short was born February 24, 1927 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ellie B. (Dorsett) and Tom Short. He died Thursday, August 25, 2011 on Lake Sam Rayburn.
Mr. Short was a retired Paint Contractor and had lived in Lufkin all his life. He was a Christian man with a loving and generous heart. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who fished and hunted from Mexico to Canada. He also fished professionally for many years. Mr. Short enjoyed the great outdoors, his family, and his many friends. He had a keen sense-of-humor, and was always willing to share a hunting or fishing story. His presence on this earth will be greatly missed, and his memory will be deeply cherished.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Stockman Short of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Louie and J'Nelle Short of Huntington; daughters, Sandra Stevenson of Houston and Rhonda Jean Short of Lufkin; nine grandchildren, Shandilyn Selman, Treasure Bauer, Jared Short, Sommer Short Willis, Jennifer Stevenson, Jamie Aldridge, Johnny-wayne Smith, Bobby-wayne Smith and Tommy D'wayne Martin; nine great grandchildren; half-sisters, Shirley Ann Peltier of Nederland, Tommye Jean Walters of Weatherford; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Ann Stockman of Houston, Travis Carrington of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Magic Gabier; twin grandsons; six sisters; and one brother.
Pallbearers will be Milt Purvis, James Robert Wilson, Bubba Ainsworth, Heath Bragg, Walter Click and Billy Sam Locke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Byrd and David Holt.
