Jean Weaver

February 18, 1921 — September 4, 2011

Funeral services for Jean Weaver, 90, of Zavalla will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zavalla First Baptist Church with Brother Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Broaddus Cemetery.

Mrs. Weaver was born February 18, 1921 in Bonham, Texas to the late Elder Jesse Corbit and Ova Muriel (Pace) Collins, and died Sunday, September 4, 2011 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Weaver had resided in Zavalla since 1996. She retired from the Exxon Oil Co. in Baytown following 25 years of employment, and she volunteered at National Parks across the country. Mrs. Weaver had been with the North American Missionaries since 1985. She was also involved with Mission Service Corp., but was most proud of the missionary work she and her husband Earl did with the Texas Baptist Men Christian Builders, where they helped start and build churches. She was known by everyone for her hard work and dedication in whatever she did. Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Zavalla First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Earl Weaver of Zavalla; son, Byron Doss of Goodrich; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Gary Cochran of Baytown, Earlene Dulaney of League City and Carolyn and Phillip Hight of Jasper; son-in-law, John Bird of Baytown; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, ""Baby"" Tom and Ginger Collins of Kerrville; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Johnny Barrington of Luling; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally P. Bird; and brothers, Jimmy Collins and Buddy Collins.

Pallbearers will be the Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Zavalla First Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington.
