Funeral services for James Mathew Fuller, 81, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington First Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Smith and Reverend Stanley Lohse officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
Mr. Fuller was born July 4, 1930 in Wells, Texas to the late Oma (McFarland) and Guy Fuller, and died Saturday, December 24, 2011 after celebrating Christmas with his family.
Mr. Fuller was a Lufkin High School graduate and had resided in Huntington most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, from 1952-1954. Mr. Fuller was employed with Lufkin Trailers for 22 years, and Union Rig and Equipment Co. for 15 years.
Mr. Fuller was an active member of the Huntington First Baptist Church. He served as Deacon for 43 years before becoming Deacon Emeritus in 1999. Mr. Fuller was a member and past Secretary of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M., and a past Huntington School Board member for nine years, where he also served as President. He loved fishing, cruises, working his cattle, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife, Marvette Fuller of Huntington; son, Kevin Fuller of Lumberton; grandsons, Carson Fuller, Landon Fuller and Camp Fuller, all of Lumberton; sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Fred Walker of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Jeannie Fuller of Houston; nephew, Col. Steven Berry of Washington, D.C.; extended family member, Ann Apa of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fuller was preceded in death by his son, Mike Fuller; brother, Bobby Fuller; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ottis and Marvin Mattox.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Fuller's nephews: Steven Nunn, Guy Nunn, Eldon Fuller, William Fuller, Kelly Fuller and Charles Fuller.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mr. Fuller's favorite charity, Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Virginia 23509, or online at www.operationsmile.org. A $240.00 donation to Operation Smile provides surgery for one child. Mr. Fuller was able to help 36 children with his donations.
