Willie Carson

Funeral services for Willie D. Carson, Sr., 80, of Zavalla will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mr. Carson was born November 27, 1931 in Zavalla, Texas to the late Mabel (Rhodes) and Jude Carson, and died Saturday, January 14, 2012 in a local hospital. He was a longtime resident of Zavalla.

Mr. Carson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and worked in the oil business for 44 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Carson was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his son, Dale Carson of Zavalla; mother-in-law, Willie Mae Cryer of Zavalla; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Mary Cryer of Zavalla, Calvin and Gina Cryer of Wildwood and Steve and Ray Nell Sansom of Gilmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Faye (Cryer) Carson, who died in 2002.

Pallbearers will be Craig Stephen Cryer, Shannon Cryer, Derek Cryer, George Cryer, Jr., Calvin Cryer III and Steve Sansom.
