Funeral services celebrating the life of Iris Louise ""Jo"" Boykin Thompson, 80, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Van Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cameron Cemetery in the Saron Community south of Zavalla.
After a long, full life and a valiant fight for health, Mrs. Thompson passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, March 30, 2012. She was born November 13, 1931 in the Saron Community outside Zavalla, Texas, the only child of Dicy (Grimes) and Eli Boykin.
Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Zavalla High School and Massey Business College. In high school, she was elected cheerleader and enjoyed playing tennis and basketball. She married the love of her life, Fred Thompson, September 1950 in Lufkin, Texas. After living in Lufkin many years, they moved to Alvin, Texas where she was the Office Manager in the Utilities Department for the City of Alvin for 26 years. Louise and Fred spent some time in China during the 1970's when American visits to China were just beginning. After retiring, they returned to their farm in Zavalla. Mrs. Thompson touched the hearts of many people with her outgoing personality. She enjoyed dancing and playing dominoes, but her most precious time was spent making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson will forever be remembered by her husband, Fred Thompson of Zavalla; daughters, Dr. Judy Thompson and Bruce Bandy, Sharon Taylor and husband Dennis, and Cathy Miglicco and husband Terry, all of Alvin; daughter-in-law, Tonya Thompson of Alvin; grandchildren, Michael Stein and wife Evelia of Alvin, Jennifer Stein-Kolinek and husband Trey of Taylor, Austin Miller of New York City, Alyssa Schuepbach and husband John of San Antonio, Katie Tyler and husband Dustin of San Antonio, Courtney Appel and husband Jaxson of Friendswood, Caroline Menefee of League City, Trisha Thompson of Alvin, and Teri Jo Couchman and husband Chris of Alvin; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Stein of Alvin, Audrey Kolinek of Taylor, John Patrick Schuepbach of San Antonio, Bradley and Makenzie Couchman of Alvin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Tommy Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Michael Stein, Trey Kolinek, Austin Miller, John Schuepbach, Dustin Tyler, Jaxson Appel, and Chris Couchman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oran Johnson, Billy Edwards, Tommy Peebles, Arlin Grimes, Keith Harris, Bobby Weaver, and Bobby Dykes.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
