Virginia Elliott

March 18, 1941 — May 20, 2012

Funeral services for Virginia Dale ""Ginger"" Williams Elliott, 71, of Huntington, will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Floyd Slaughter officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
Ms. Elliott was born on Tuesday, March 18, 1941 (Tuesday's child is full of grace), the second of five children, in Huntington, Texas to Mamie Sue (Donnell) and the late Ben A. Williams. She died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her residence.
Ginger had resided in Huntington most of her life. She graduated from Massey Business College after majoring in real estate. She worked for a catering company driving a truck, driving a van at the airport, was a manager at Okay Food Stores in Lufkin for 17 years, and a manager for First Stop Groceries at Crystal Beach. She was loved by all of her customers. Ginger loved to travel to Las Vegas. She was also a songwriter. She co-wrote ""Ginger's Bread Man,"" which was recorded by Roy Head and again by Waylon Jennings, and ""It Don't Bother Me,"" which was recorded by Ben Reece. She was a member of Harmony Odell Baptist Church.
If you were lucky enough to be in Ginger's life, your life was all but boring. She would add her own little perks to any story that she was telling to make sure that the listener would be thoroughly entertained. It was important to her to be the ""cool"" aunt ? the ""hip"" mom ? the ""with-it"" cousin. She was the one to turn to when you had a problem. She had a need to fix anything that life could throw her way or yours. Sometimes her solution would be something so simple it should have been obvious all along; other times, it would be something so far-fetched that even if you could follow the advice, it might land you in a bigger stink than when you started out ? but it's always fun to dream.
Ginger was greeted in Heaven by her father, Ben A. Williams; the father of her children, William (Bill) Elliott; her sister and best friend, Benita, Benita's husband Dean, and their daughter Robyn; as well as her nephew, Dusty, who was probably the happiest of all to see her coming.
Left on earth to cherish her memory are her mother, Mamie Sue Donnell Williams of Huntington; her children and their spouses, Danny and Jennie Elliott of Spring, Tammy and Doug Eaton of Deer Park, and Jennifer and Kevin McKnight of Haslet; her grandchildren, Amanda Cooper and husband Pat, Zachary Hynes, Jessica Bolton, Lauri Eaton, Courtney Banks, Eric Eaton, Kellie McKnight and Ryan Elliott; great grandchildren, Aaren Bolton, James Bolton, Cherimae Eaton, Nevah Cooper, Ginger Sue Banks, Hunter Eaton and Emma Banks; sisters, Wanda Williams and Marilyn Choate and husband John, all of Huntington; brother, Phillip Williams and wife Loris of Huntington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Hynes, Pat Cooper, Ryan Elliott, Matt Court, Ben Williams and John Choate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Elliott and Gene Dean, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904; or to the Humane Society of Angelina County, P.O. Box 472, Lufkin, Texas 75902.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
